Interviews w/ co-author Fredrick E. Brabson Sr.
Foreword
In our household growing up, I was the third of five children being raised by a single mother. Our dear mother always worked two to three jobs to make ends meet, which meant throughout the week we kids typically waved at her as she hurried out the door to one of her jobs.
Not having the luxury to spend a lot of time at home with us, my mom had very few rules for each of us kids to obey. However, there was this one rule every child in our house was required to obey, and it was not open to negotiation. That rule was in regards to Sundays. Every Sunday morning everyone living in her house, drinking her water, sleeping in her beds, and eating her food had to attend church. Regarding this one rule, our mother tolerated no exceptions and no excuses! On Sunday afternoons our dear mother would gather each of us into the living room to give us an opportunity as a family to talk about what we had heard in our Sunday School class and in our pastor’s sermon.
It was from those Sunday afternoon family meetings that I learned the importance of hearing the stories communicated in a sermon or in a Sunday School lesson. I could not always remember a sermon title or Sunday School topic, but in our Sunday afternoon family meetings I always remembered the stories told by the pastor or the Sunday School teacher—and that was over fifty-five years ago!
Well, that is the beauty of this book that you are about to read: If the Shoe Fits: Spiritual Truths Illustrated in Great Stories. My friends, Pastor Frederick E. Brabson Sr. and Vanderbilt Brabson III, have literally saved for every preacher, pastor, Sunday School teacher, evangelist, seminary student, and Bible study teacher the precious time it requires to search out and find just the right story to communicate and illustrate the truths of their message. In this book the authors are doing for us what Jesus did during His earthly ministry when He taught His audiences by the use of parables. No matter who His audience was, Jesus utilized parables to illustrate the spiritual lessons He was conveying.

This short, easy reading book has thirty stories covering a range of subjects that will leave your audience requesting, “Please, tell us another story!” That’s how I felt when I got to the last chapter of this enjoyable book. I wanted to say, “Please, tell me another story!” My only regret is that I wish I had a book like this in my library years ago. I know it would have helped in trying to illustrate difficult passages in my preaching and teaching throughout the years.
I encourage you to read this book, apply this book, but most of all, tell others about this book so that they too may be blessed as I have been. Thanks Pastor Brabson and Vanderbilt Brabson III for If the Shoe Fits, a book that will help all who read it.

“If the Shoe Fits is refreshing and insightful into the truth of God’s word. The illustrations are real life and timely. I found the stories a real delight while at the same time driving home important truths of the Word being understood from the unique perspective of a powerful story. I highly recommend this to anyone who preaches and teaches God’s word. There is nothing as powerful as a good illustration. This book is full of them. You will definitely enjoy this book.”

“If the Shoe Fits is everything advertised and more! I’ve long believed that biblical preaching is comprised of the solid exposition of scripture that is illustrated clearly with a call to application. The authors have provided a treasure chest full of illustrations and applications of biblical truth in their book If the Shoe Fits. I am honored to endorse this practical book for every pastor who desires to communicate more clearly and every Christ-follower who wants to live in more victory.”

“Good teachers turn ears into eyes by saying what they see so clearly that those who hear them can see what they say. The authors, Vanderbilt Brabson III and Fredrick Brabson Sr. teach like Jesus the Master Teacher taught by employing illustrations to turn the windows of life’s experiences into mirrors for self-identification. This book is a photo album in which readers can see themselves, use the images to diagnose their predicaments, and more importantly, find redemptive, active, and life-changing prescriptions within the personhood of Jesus Christ. If the Shoe Fits is theology in practical and identifiable illustrations, not just in sermonic propositions. This book will be a profitable addition to the library of any serious student of Scripture–whether one stands in the pulpit or classroom or sits in the quietude of home.”

I felt like this is the perfect book for faith based readers who want to immerse and connect in God. It is smaller but just packed with spiritual goodness that will have you taking more time to think through the chapters. Recommend this one to older readers who want more of a learning experience.
